Debbie received her graduate training in the field of Anthropology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Beginning in 1998, she was elected for three consecutive four-year terms on the Ventura Unified School District (VUSD) Board of Education. Over the last 12 years, she has gained an intimate knowledge of best practices in education and has developed considerable experience in education policy-making. She also possesses extensive knowledge of educational literature that addresses studies, models, outcomes/impacts, and assessments relevant to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) curricula. To enhance teaching and learning in the VUSD, Debbie has worked tirelessly with her colleagues to establish strong and productive working relationships among parents, administrators, teachers, and community members. Debbie is heavily invested in the Ventura community and devotes her time to a variety of community organizations, including the Ventura Education Partnership, the Arts Education Advocacy Collaboration, the Coordinated School Health Council, the Ventura County Anti Defamation League, the Rubicon Theater Education Outreach Committee, the Community Commission of Ventura County, a LEAN VC, the Ventura Integrated Resource Initiative Partnership, and the VUSD Budget Advisory Committee.
