Coastal Marine Biolabs is nestled in the heart of Ventura Harbor, a physical gateway to the Channel Islands National Park and Marine Sanctuary. CMB’s research-grade biosciences facility is equipped with a full suite of analytic tools and scientific instrumentation needed for students to investigate a wide-range of scientific questions. The facility occupies ~2000 square feet and contains office space for full-time faculty, bench space for twelve students, a central conference and multimedia area, a transgenics laboratory, a cell biology/tissue culture laboratory, a molecular biology laboratory, a state-of-the-art imaging laboratory, and a small temperate marine laboratory.

For field studies, CMB students benefit from direct access to the Channel Islands National Park and Marine Sanctuary aboard harbor-based commercial vessels, including the D/V Raptor. Student divers also enjoy access to a world-class SCUBA facility at Ventura Dive and Sport, which is located within steps of CMB.
